Window Sampling
Window sampling is carried out by either track mounted percussive samplers or hand held hydraulic percussive samplers. Samples are retrieved in seamless plastic tubes for logging by a suitably qualified engineer. Window sampling is suited to restricted access sites, contamination investigations, and where disturbance must be kept to a minimum. The track mounted equipment is also capable of carrying out dynamic probe testing. Instrumentation can be installed in the boreholes.
Key features:-
- SPT and CPT.
- Various size casing available.
- PTS certified staff.
- CSCS certified staff.

Cable Percussive Boreholes
Cable percussive boreholes are the most common method of site investigation. We have a fleet of standard cable percussion rigs, in addition to specialist cut down rigs, suited to restricted access locations. This method of boring permist in-situ testing techniques including Standard Penetration Testing (SPT), Permeability Testing, Borehole Vane Testing and Packer Testing to be carried out in the boreholes providing information for geotechnical design. Disturbed and undisturbed samples may be retrieved from the boreholes for inspection and logging by engineers, and for subsequent testing in our laboratories. Instrumentation can be installed in the boreholes.
Key features:-
- Various size casings available (150 mm - 250 mm).
- A cost effective way of traditional drilling.
- PTS certified staff.
- CSCS certified staff.

Rotary Boreholes
Rotary drilling techniques are employed where boreholes are required in bedrock. Core samples of bedrock are recovered in seamless plastic tubes for subsequent logging by a suitably qualified engineer and for laboratory testing. Investigations by open hole drilling are carried out where mining voids are suspected of being present under a site.
Key features:-
- Flight Augers - various sizes from 100 mm to 200 mm diameter.
- Rotary Core Drill and case sizes from 76 mm to 150 mm diameter.
- Rotary window sample from 76 mm to 131 mm diameter.
- SPT's, CPT's, U4's.
- Packer tests from 76 mm to 150 mm diameter.
- Variable head and constant head permeability testing.
- Borehole Vane testing.
- Core Orientation.
- DTH from 78 mm to 150 mm diameter.
- Simultaneous drilling and casing using a symmetrix 140 mm diameter casing.
- Flush using air, air-mist, water, foam, polymer.
- PTS certified staff.
- CSCS certified staff.

Trial Pits
Key features:-
Trial pit excavations may be deployed to achieve a rapid shallow sampling programme. Trial pits will also allow an assessment of obstructions and existing foundations in the near surface ground, particularly on brownfield sites. Trial pits also provide a visual assessment of the nature of superficial soils in relation to potential contamination.
